Faces of women warriors, skulls, or parts of skulls with eyeballs sticking out. Samurai given a new twist with heraldic embellishments and imposing masks. These are the subjects which fill the sketchbook of Jondix, one of the most important and renowned artists working in the Ornamental style. Jondix takes his ideas from the major Asian traditions. Some of these plates feature complex compositions of subjects, which need to be studied icarefully in order to pick up all the references whereas others have a single dominant subject centred on the white page.
